Ideas, Ideas, Ideas

Well, Tessa and I went to Home Depot today to start looking at materials we will need to refinish the hardwood floors. We also got 254356 paint samples. I never thought that having a man purse would come in hand, but I've been able to write down info on everything and will be able to compare prices and uses of materials. Yay man purse.

Please comment any ideas on what we should in the kitchen for lay out. Any ideas on colors would also be amazing.

One thing that my mom had an idea on was building a little mud room on the back of the house. We will put the washer and dryer in there instead of putting them in another room.

These are all the pics, for now

Fairly soon, we will have a time line written out and posted on here. We will be taking a lot more pics and posting it here. I hope that all of you check up on us as much as you can and give us as many kind words and pieces of advice as possible. I love you all.

Living room Pics

This is a pic of the living room. It's also the room that you enter from the front of the house. The redish center used to be a fireplace that was framed and sheetrocked over. I am wanting to do built ins on both sides of the old fireplace underneath the windows.

The windows on both sides of the front door will look good once the plywood is taken off.

Stairs Pics

These are the stairs that lead to the second floor. They need kick plates and carpet removal.

Hardwood floors Pics

Hardwood floors were good to find underneath the ugly carpet. Unfortunately they are in rough shape. We'll need to go to Home Depot to get the elbow grease.

Bedroom one Pics

This is the bedroom at the front of the house. It's the one you can see from the kitchenette area.

That's me in the corner ripping up the carpet to see the hardwood floors underneath. This pic also shows the front of the house.

Upstairs Carrie Bradshaw Closet

Yaay!!! Wire shelving!!!!

Yayyy!!! Even more wire shelving! And just so you know half of the closet on the left is Michael's.

Yep, half of this is where Michael gets to put all his clothes.

Kitchenette Pic

This picture was taken inside the kitchen pointing toward the kitchenette and showing a bedroom through the doorway.

Side of the house Pics

Yay! A pic of the side of the house. It also comes with a little shed.
This is me peaking underneath the vinyl siding hoping for unrotten wood. Un/fortunately I wasn't able to really see anything. But those two little windows are on both side of what used to be a fireplace in the living room.

Kitchen Pics

This door that you see leads to the outside.

That washer and dryer are going to be moving, don't you worry.

The original cabinetry work is amazing.

Here are some pics of some free appliances!

Back of house Pic

Back of the house. This leads to the kitchen

Front of the house Pic

This is the front of the house. So cute!

Tessa's Version :)

My version is exactly what Mike said! I am in love with this little house and so in love with Mike too of course!

We are so excited! What a special month it has been and what a special year 2009 will be!

We thought it would be fun to put up a blog site for our loved ones who would like to see pictures of all of the progress! Tonight we are posting a few pics of the house I just took with my camera phone today. Many more to come!

Tessa

The start of it all! (Mike's version)

It actually began in September or October of 2008 when I got into contact with Demetrius Johnson. Tessa had given me his number since she knew I was wanting to start looking at houses in East Nashville over 1000 square feet and under $70,000. I had had problems with previous realtors because they kept bumping me up to higher price ranges or showing me houses that would be better to demolish.
Demetrius had just recently earned his Real Estate license and I knew that he would be hard working and diligent in the journey that I had made up in my crazy brain. We looked at around ten to twelve houses when we found a house on Brunswick. It looked decent from the outside. It was in a really quiet and safe neighborhood in East Nashville, which can be hard to come by. I made a rookie mistake, because I am a home buying rookie, and didn't look around the house like I should have. We put an offer on the house, and long story short we didn't get it because of foundation issues and not being able to secure a loan without a 20% down payment.
So Demetrius and I started looking at houses again, now knowing the rules of securing a loan for the purchase of a home in my monetary requirements. We looked at another ten homes and came across a few of them with grand potential but without the 20% down payment the dream died quickly. Demetrius had shown me a property early on on Marshall St. He personally knew the previous owner and so had Tessa. But after trying and failing to secure a construction loan for a different house that would have been probably more energy consuming than I should have been getting into.
Demetrius a few days later pointed out that the asking price for the house on Marshall St. had dropped over $10,000. We went and looked at the house again. There was nothing wrong with the house to stop the loan process. Step number one checked off the list. We had Tessa come with another time and look at the house. She liked it. Step number two checked off the list. The rest of the steps took much longer to complete the transaction but finally, a month after the original closing date, we closed on the house.
On December 29, I had two momentous occasions happen. I closed on my first house. The second was asking Tessa in the living room of the house to marry me.
